Beauty vlogger Em Ford – aka My Pale Skin – has posted a video showing the hate she has received for showing her cosmetic-free face online, as well as for using make-up to enhance her features.

Titled 'You Look Disgusting', Em’s video lists just some of the comments posted under her YouTube videos, for example, “WTF is wrong with her face?” and words like “gross” and “horrible”.

As Em puts her make-up on, the messages become more positive: “You’re so pretty,” “You look amazing.”

However, that’s when the make-up shamers come on board, writing, “Imagine waking up next to her in the morning.”

The final scenes show comments received from other young girls, some suffering with acne like Em does, asking for advice and sharing their own problems.

“I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men,” said the former model.

“One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we’re so used to seeing false images of perfection and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that it can be hard to remember the most important thing–you ARE beautiful.”
