The Wanted's Max George Opens Up On Band Split
The Wanted star Max George has opened up about the boy band's [uuid=d1f3e7f4-cc69-40dd-9ab0-496f568517cc]recently announced split[/uuid].
Speaking to The Sun's Dan Wootton, the star revealed that there has been tension within the group for some time - and that he and Nathan Sykes are both planning on going solo.
The 25-year-old singer said: "Over the past year there has been a lot of tension.
"Our personal lives drove us apart — things started to happen and we were drifting. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn't The Wanted anymore."
And he revealed that the decision to split came in a group phone call with manager Scooter Braun, who also looks after Justin Bieber.
"We had a very difficult conversation. Our manager Scooter Braun asked us who would want to take a step out after the tour and try to do their own thing. Me and Nathan both said we have other ambitions.
"We were more prepared than the others because we'd looked at how things had been going with the band over the past few months."
And he hints that the decision has not been universally popular within the group.
"It shouldn’t be a surprise for anyone. As upsetting as it might be to some of the other guys, I have to live my life. Nathan and I haven't broken any promises either because we're both going to be on the tour.
"We also haven't said we feel we can achieve more than anyone else. I'm guessing that some people might think that, but me and Nathan have been just as loyal to this project as anyone else. Sometimes you just have to be realistic."
Max also pledged that the boys would give their all for the Word Of Mouth tour, which ends in May.
"We're professional and we will make sure this is the best tour we've ever done."
He later admits that there has been tension between himself and bandmate Siva Kaneswaran's [uuid=88d39e3e-1f7c-4fcf-aed3-d2fe9b54ec68]fiancé Nareesha McCaffrey[/uuid].
She this week tweeted: "There is no 'I' in team. Some people, I'm telling you. Selfishness is such a nasty trait."
And Max is convinced that the message was aimed at himself and Nathan.
"If that was directed at me and Nathan — which I'm guessing it was — then it's disappointing.
"I think it's a little bit immature. It's not news to anyone that there's a bit of friction there.
"Me and Siva's girlfriend don't get on. But I respect her and am happy that she makes Siva happy because he's like one of my brothers."
But Max is confident that all of the lads will land on their feet.
"Some of the boys have already got their own things in place. Siva's got a huge modelling contract. Tom's doing his DJing. There's talk of Jay going into TV and radio."
However Max is convinced that Nathan is most likely to make it big.
"He's just a bundle of talent and he's got so much ambition.
"He's been growing up over the past few years, he had his first serious girlfriend with Ariana (Grande).
"We've all known from the start he wanted to go solo and he'll have my support in whatever he does."
And as for his own future, he reveals that his ambitions lie in a planned acting career.
"I've already been signed with CAA, a big agency in Hollywood. After the tour I'm going to move to LA, get a house and settle there.
"I'm going to do auditions and learn the business. There's talk of a couple of roles already."
