MTV Review: Troye Sivan Shows He Really Is Fireproof At London Show
Everything about Troye Sivan is adorable. The way he dances on stage, right through to the way he plays with his hair, he has the makings of a teenage heartthrob. However, this 20-year-old is way more than just a pretty face.
With a critically acclaimed album under his belt and multiple sold out shows around the world, Troye's music is doing the talking. Blue Neighbourhood, the YouTube sensation's debut, translates so well in the live setting that it's hard to believe that he's only been performing a short while.
London's O2 Forum in Kentish Town is the venue for his first sold out London show on this tour, and with eager fans waiting outside from 6am, Troye is definitely pushing into the realms of superstardom at lightening pace.
Support came in the form of Norwegian starlet Astrid S - as cute as a button but with songs that completely blow you away. You can instantly see why Troye (or his management) decided to pair these two, fans of Sivan will love her edgy pop beats and soaring vocals, and her live performance didn't disappoint.
By the time Troye took to the stage at around 9pm, the pent-up energy from his (very young) fan base was intense. Screaming at the top of their lungs, they welcomed their idol to London in the warmest way. Going straight into über moody album track 'BITE', the show had begun and we were about to witness Troye in his element - performing to a sold-out venue.
After a change of venue, the show was in Camden andfor Troye this made the night even more special as he performed his own version of Amy Winehouse's 'Love Is A Losing Game'. It was spinetinglingly good and with Troye citing Winehouse as a major influence in his musical career, the moment was pretty special.
What made Troye's show different was how it simultaneously felt epic, yet close and intimate. There were moments where he would take a minute or two to chat and in that say some pretty powerful stuff. As a prominent voice and role model for LGBT youth, his honesty about the songs' meanings were genuine and heartwarming. Take 'HEAVEN' for example, a song that now holds even more meaning for the 20-year-old. With his fame itis no longer solely about his coming out experience, it translates to manyfans that have used Troye's music to come to terms with their own sexuality.
Highlights from the show included his first ever single 'Happy Little Pill' and, concluding the initial part of the show, 'TALK ME DOWN', which gave us ALL the feels. The encore consisted of 'LOST BOY' and his biggest song to date, 'YOUTH'.
Overall his live show was incredible. His fan-base worship him but he comes across as one of them, rather than someone out of reach. He's relatable, totally adorable and with music that really packs a punch, this 20-year-old will go far, just you wait and see.
