These Unedited Rainbow Hair Pics Show The Realities Of Social Media

Or should that be the unrealities of social media?

Everyone knows that Instagram doesn't necessarily tell the whole truth, but if you've always wondered why your selfies don't look quite as sleek and professional as the ones you see on your feed, this might just be your answer.

It all comes thanks to hair colourist Ursula Goff, who might create the kind of rainbow hair you've always dreamt of for a living, but who knows that it's totally normal not to look permanently Instagram ready.

To illustrate her point that even rainbow locks can lead to the occasional less than best of hair days, she took to Facebook with a post showing two pics of her hair. Neither are edited, but her point is that careful lighting and angling of your lenscan make a huge difference to the finished product and as such, what we see online isn't always reality. She also points out that most of us will always choose the very best photo and chances are that thefinal version peoplego for will be not only be filtered, but the resultof hundreds of shots that have been cast off.

After putting her thoughts down in writing, Ursula'spost quickly went viral, gainingover 30,000 likes on Facebook and let's just say that once you hear what she has to say, we guarantee that you'll relate.

"I didn't edit either one of these photos, but they were taken just a few days apart," she writes."I think it's important to note that lighting, angles, facial expression, and make-up make a huge difference in photography and presentation (especially in my case!).

"Social media can make it easy to feel like everyone else is awesome and perfect all the time, but that's really never true. We should keep in mind that behind every pretty face or perfect lifestyle is a regular person, and that there's really no point in comparing amongst ourselves because this is all cultivated."

She adds: "Part of the solution, I think, is more people opting to take a moment here and there to be real and show what's behind the smoke and mirrors, because it's relevant for y'all to know that this isn't reality. In reality, nothing is perfect, life is messy, and people are flawed."

It's pretty refreshing to see someone putting themselves out there like this and there's no denying that Ursula looks great all natural and barefaced too.

Maybe 2016 is the year that we all take a step back and consider the importance of keeping it real, just like this lot:
