Shawn Mendes has opened up about a whole lot in a recent interview with 'Rolling Stone', revealing he felt 'sick' with worry when Taylor Swift texted him asking if she could share a video of her applying glittery makeup to his face.

The 'Lost In Japan'singer's concern stemmed from long-standing misconceptions about his sexuality, and he was worried that posting it would fuel false rumours that he's gay.

Shawn said he immediately agreed to let her post the clip, which was taken backstage at her Reputation Tour in Toronto, Canda, but he revealed he later woke up worried about his decision.

Shawn said: "I felt sick. I was like, 'F***, why did I let her post that?' I just fed the fire that I’m terrified of."

"In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone - like a girl - in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay," Shawn said.

"Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me."

With 15 female cousins, Shawn said stuff like "braiding hair and painting" nails is pretty standard to him, and he added: "Maybe I am a little more feminine - but that’s the way it is. That’s why I am me."

He went on to discuss how irresponsible he feels the rumours and constant speculation about his sexuality are, admitting: "I thought, 'You f***ing guys are so lucky I’m not actually gay and terrified of coming out'. That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is."

Since the interview was published, Shawn has hinted that it did not tell the full story, taking to Twitter to say he wish it had.

"Of course i have my insecurities and struggles but that’s just one part of me. Sometimes the positive side of a story doesn’t always get fully told and I wish it had here. I love what i do and i love you guys so much ❤️[sic]," he wrote.
