Did The 1975's Matt Healy Just Throw Major Shade At 5 Seconds Of Summer?
We hate when our beloved bands get snippy with each other, it's like having to pick between our own children.
So we're feeling super awks now that it looks like Matt Healy, the lead singer of The 1975, has thrown some catty comments in the direction of the 5SOS lads.
When asked about their fans, he replied that they get a lot of 5SOS fans transitioning to them but that The 1975 aren't 'a faddy thing'.
He told MTV: "One of the things that I love about The 1975 is now I've realized that we're kind of this gateway band. Gateway bands used to exist, but they were normally shitty — you know, bands that straddled between the truly alternative scene and the mainstream market."
"A soft, easy band for the kids to transition from the Backstreet Boys to f**kin' Cannibal Corpse or whatever it may be."
"With us, of course we're gonna get a lot of kids who were into, I don't know, 5 Seconds of Summer. And then they get inside and they realize: I can stay here. I can grow with this band. This isn't a faddy thing. This isn't the Backstreet Boys. You're not being told to like us."
Eek.
Shady or nah? We're not sure.
Either way, it's super awkward because back in May, Ashton Irwin tweeted: "The 1975 have been so important for upcoming bands! So happy they exist, and are helping open the gateway for young bands."
Bromance no more.
