From Ellen DeGeneres To Beyonce: 11 Celebrities Who Have Seriously Unexpected Royal Connections
We don’t know about you, but we’re still seriously BUZZIN’ about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big Royal Wedding that took place at Windsor Castle last Saturday (sure, we still would’ve loved a personal invite but you can’t win them all, right?).
In honour of the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, we’re taking a look at the celebrities who have real-life ties to royalty. Us? Jealous? Never.
These celebrities have pasts that will shock you to the core...
Ellen DeGeneres
According to the New England Genealogical Society, Ellen is actually related to the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
Ellen explained their connection during her show in 2011, telling viewers they are 15th cousins. They are related through Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife Agnes Gascoigne, who lived here in the early 1500s.
Pretty cool, huh?
Danny Dyer
Danny discovered his surprising royal relations when he appeared on 'Who Do You Think You Are?', where he found that he has links to not one, but two members of the monarchy.
The actor is descended from both William the Conqueror and Edward III - and, if that’s not enough, also has links to King Henry VIII’s chief minister, Thomas Cromwell.
What a lad.
Hugh Grant
He’s already acting royalty, but it turns out Hugh is also related to actual royalty, with the first House of Tudor monarchHenry VII being a distant great-grandfather.
If that’s not impressive enough, he’s also thought to be connected to King of ScotlandJames IV, another great-grandfather.
We wouldn’t expect anything less, to be honest.
Beyoncé
Nope, we’re not joking.
We already know Beyoncé is a Queen in her own right, but research has confirmed that she has actual connections to Queen Elizabeth II, who is her 25th cousin, once removed.
All hail Queen Bey.
Hilary Duff
She was mistaken for pop royalty in the Lizzie McGuire Movie.
But genealogist Josh Taylor has found that Hilary has links to actual royalty in real life, as she is 18th cousins with Queen Elizabeth II, with both members of royalty (in different ways) linking back to former King of England, Edward III.
This is what dreams are made of.
Spencer Matthews
Okay, so Spencer doesn’t have any blood connections to the royal family (that we know about anyway).
However, his brother James is now married to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa, so he is practically a Prince, right?
Brad Pitt
Like Hugh Grant, Brad has already earned himself the title of Hollywood royalty.
But Brad also has links to real-life royalty, as he is said to be descended from Henry II, making him a distant 25th cousin, twice removed.
Prince Brad, anyone?
Angelina Jolie
Acting Queen Angelina can count the royal family as relatives and probably add them to her Christmas card list too.
Angelina is the Queen’s 26th cousin, with the actress and the monarch both having ancestry with King Phillip II.
Sending a crown over as we speak.
Robert Pattinson
Rob’s royal connections are probably the most interesting of all.
Not only did ancestry.co.uk find that he’s a distant cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry, but through this, they found that he also has links to Vlad the impaler.
The vampire role doesn’t sound too crazy now, right?
Paris Hilton
She’s pretty much living a royal-ly fabulous life already.
But Paris now has an extra right to live the most royal life she wants thanks to her connections to the monarchy, with research showing she has links to Henry II of England, making her Elizabeth II’s 20th cousin.
You can call her Princess Paris.
Guy Ritchie
Away from his acting career, it seems Guy has a very exciting royal link.
The New England Historic Genealogical Society linked him to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, finding that the pair are actually sixth cousins, once removed.
You learn something new every day.
