In this emotional new single, Louis Tomlinson shows us a side to him we’ve never seen before - his guards are down and his heart is on his sleeve - and the vulnerability more than pays off.

Baring his soul and the emotions he’s been going through after the loss of his mother, Johanna, to leukemia in 2016, Louis exposes both his pain and strength and pours it out for us to hold onto in this song. Its message is clear: a tribute to a family member lost but never forgotten - because they’ll be carried with you for as long as you live.

Speaking on the new single, Louis revealed it was a song he “absolutely needed to write.” Bursting in with something completely unlike anything we’ve heard from him before in the first line, “you’ll never know how much I miss you, the day that they took you, I wish it was me instead”, it’s clear this track is deeply personal to him, and he’s not afraid to share his pain in the hopes it can help other people who are suffering.

Louis revealed what the song means to him: “I just feel like musically, I almost needed to get this song off my chest, people say writing is a part of therapy and in a way, I feel like I’d been avoiding writing this song because I knew I only had one chance to get it right.

“I don’t mean to be too soppy about it, but if “Two of Us” can help just one other person who's going through the tough time that I went through, then that would make me really happy.”

Since exiting boyband One Direction, Tomlinson has had an extremely successful solo career. Winning an iHeart Award for ‘Best Solo Breakout’ in 2018, gathering over a billion streams on his collaborations with Steve Aoki and Bebe Rexha, and winning an EMA award for ‘Best UK & Ireland Act’ in 2017 - the singer is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

So, when’s the album coming? Well, the singer has revealed that his “number one mission this year is to get my album out.”

“I won't feel content until I've got the album out, because it's been a long time coming now. I've written a lot of songs - too many for an album. But the most important thing is for the album to feel like it makes sense when you play it from start to finish. It's going to be an album that really builds a narrative – an autobiographical one.”
