8 Reasons Why Magaluf Needs To Be Back On Your Summer Vacay Radar
The sun is out, festival season has kicked offand we’ve got enough bikinis in our ASOS Saved Items to dress an entireBalearic Island. With that in mind, we felt it was only right thatwe went to one such island – Mallorca –to check out what it has to offer for summer '17.
Hitting up the island's most infamous party location, Magaluf, we set out to discover if it lived up to its (somewhat questionable) reputation – and BOY were we pleasantly surprised.
Here are eight great reasons why you should consider Magaluf for your summer vacay.
1. It’s got some pretty sweet hotels
Whatever vibe you’re after, whether you want to party with your mates or chill with your boo, Sol House Mallorca Mixed by Ibiza Rocks has a little bit of something for everyone. We met super sweet couples, rowdy Irish lads, hen dos, stag dos, girls' holidays, young people, old people… You name it, they wereby the Sol House Mallorca pool. Actually, make that 'pools', because not only does the hotel have a (huge) central pool by the DJ decks, but there's also a second full-size pool on a raised sun terrace if you'd rather be away from the main action.
You probably won't spend much time in your room, but should you be interested in your sleeping arrangements, there are a variety of room levels depending on whether you want a sea view (it's well worth it, trust us), a pool view, a suite or a standard, budget-friendly House Room. As for your dining options, the food at the Play Bar in the lobby was our favourite (think giant burgers and sharing nachos), but the Food Factory Buffet Restaurant is also worth a visit – especially at breakfast time.
2. It can throw a mighty fine music festival
We were lucky enough to be in Magaluf while Mallorca Live Festival was taking place at Antiguo Aquaparkon May 12th and 13th,with an eclectic line-up that included iconicrock heroes Placebo and The Charlatans, plus current DJ favesKölsch and Ben Klock. Whether you choose to go for a day or the whole weekend, you should definitely attend next year, for all-round good vibes and great times.
3. The weather is dreamy
When we hit the strip in early May it was already 25°C – pretty great for a European destination, no? Sure, the sea was still a little chilly for paddling, but by July and August you'll want to dive right in.
4. It’s only a two-hour flight from London
Flights from the UK to Palma De Mallorca are fast and frequent, and most of the major budget airlines – including easyjet and Ryanair – operate the route regularly.
5. It has some really swish restaurants
Located inside theMeliá Calviá Beach hotel, The Level Restaurant is a perfect setting for romantic dates or a fancy dinner with your crew, offering sea views whether you choose to dine indoors or out. Open for breakfast and dinner, expect the best meats, seafoodand vegetarian options, and super attentive service. Oh, and the macaroons are great, too!
6. The people are super friendly
Maybe it's all the sunshine that makes them so happy, but everyone we metin Magaluf couldn't have been nicer, especially the locals and the staff atSol House Mallorca. Maybe we should move there?
7. You might spot a TOWIE or Geordie Shore cast member
Nikki Beach Mallorca is a favourite with the reality TV crowd, for its white parties and boozy Sunday brunches, so put on your swankiest swimwear and get involved. Also worth a look is Oceans Beach ClubMagaluf, which has a more laid-back vibe and offers free entry, with gorgeous sea views.
8. So. Many. Activities.
Waterparks, theme parks, crazy golf… Even if you can't think of anything worse than sunbathing all day, we're pretty sure you'll be happy with what Magaluf has to offer.
