Demi Lovato Perfectly Addresses The Association Between Mental Illness And Mass Shootings
Demi Lovato has used her power as a spokesperson for mental health and put it to good use this week, as she tries to de-stigmatise conditions like her own.
The Cool For The Summer singer, who battles with bipolar disorder, addiction and an eating disorder, made an appearance on MSNBC where she discussed the coverage of the recent mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in the US.
Tamron Hall made the point that the conversation regarding mental health has grown in the wake of the tragic incident.
“Well, unfortunately, we’ve had several instances where mental health has been brought to the attention by the media because of these tragedies,” Demi said.
“I think it’s really important,” she continued, “to remember that actually mental health — people with mental illness are actually more likely to inflict harm on themselves and become the victim rather than be the perpetrators.”
