7 Pieces Of Head-To-Toe Eco-Friendly Activewear
Ethical fashion is quickly moving from niche to mainstream. When it comes to activewear, though, how do you find something that’s functional, flattering AND environmentally friendly? Never fear - we’ve rounded up our favourite eco-friendly workout items so you can kit yourself out in sustainable fabulousness from head to toe.
1. Eco-conscious Earphones
If you listen to pumping tunes to get you through your workout, there’s no reason your earphones can’t give back to the environment too. House of Marley Uprise wireless earphones are made with natural wood fibre, come in a travel case made from recycled water bottles and will last up to eight hours on a single charge.
2. Benevolent Bikinis
For swimming and watersports, check out MAGDAKINEDESIGNS’ Isabela bikini set. The stretchy, ultra-durable fabric is made using ECONYL® Fiber - a regenerated nylon made from recycled carpet fluff and abandoned fishing nets. Each purchase returns a four per cent donation to the Marine Megafauna Foundation to help protect manta rays and other ocean giants.
3. Recycled Tops
Espresso (sorry!) your love for the environment by wearing a Sundried Olperer t-shirt made from recycled coffee grounds or a Grivola t-shirt made from recycled plastic bottles. The premium, ethical company was founded and developed by personal trainers and athletes so you can depend on functional activewear that takes sustainability to a whole new level.
4. Leggings Made in London
Showcase your style by creating and customising your own pair of personalised Contrado leggings, which are printed and made by hand in London using only non-toxic eco-friendly inks. Any fabric discarded after the manufacturing process is recycled, upcycled or donated to clothes banks, schools and universities.
5. Fish(ing) Net Stockings
If you’ve made an effort with the rest of your outfit, don’t forget your socks. Teko running and cycling socks are made from regenerated commercial fishing nets to help reduce ocean waste and Stand4Socks, made from bamboo and combed cotton, provide a pair to the homeless for each pair sold.
6. Trainers Made from Pineapples
As an alternative to environmentally costly leather, footwear made from Piñatex® is made from the leaves of the pineapple plant, which are discarded when pineapples are harvested so needs no extra resources to produce and provides extra income for farmers.
7. Ethical Exercise Mats
If you’re doing yoga, pilates or other exercise classes, look no further than Sahaja for your mat. Not only do their colourful geometric designs look awesome but they’re made from natural tree rubber and have an absorbent microfibre towel surface made from recycled plastics. For each mat sold, Sahaja donates a solar light to Mozambican families with no access to electricity.
