MTV Review | The Rover

Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star in the David Michôd-directed flick! Get MTV's verdict on the crime drama here...

UK Release Date: August 15

Certificate: 12

Running Time: 103 minutes

Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scoot McNairy, Tawanda Manyimo, David Field

Director:David Michôd

Plot:Ten years after a global economic collapse, hardened loner Eric (Pearce) visits a deserted bar in the Australian outback when a gang of thieves steal his last remaining possession - his car. The mob leave behind an injured Rey (Pattinson), who teams up with Eric in a bid to find his brother Henry (McNairy), with Eric stopping at nothing until he is reunited with the one thing that matters most to him.

Best Scene: The showdown when Eric finally gets his hands on the gang who stole his car is pretty notable, with the real reason to why he was so keen to track down his wheels revealed in the end sequence. Prepare for an unexpected twist…

Best One Liner: After Rey shoots an innocent girl, killing her instantly, Eric later turns to him and says: "You should never stop thinking about a life you've taken. That's the price you pay for taking it." Deep…

Scene Stealer: Obviously Rob! However, for those Twihards hoping to swoon over Pattinson, think again, Edward Cullen couldn't be further from Rey, as Pattinson plays the part of a dumb hick with a strong Southern accent perfectly.

[related]WTF Moment: It has to be when R-Pattz shows off his singing credentials by blasting out a rendition of Keri Hilson's Pretty Girl Rock, providing some welcome relief from the otherwise intense scenes. Oh, and his falsetto isn't too bad either.

Summary: The Rover is a slow-moving, dark film packed with intense and grit, leaving viewers just as exhausted as Eric and Rey as they travel across Australia. It truly showcases the acting talents of both Pearce and Pattinson, with it refreshing to see Rob in a role where he doesn't need to be a moody vampire to show off his skills. However, for those expecting a crime thriller, think again, The Rover is more of a tension-building flick, rather than one that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
