Chris Martin has given his first interview since his 'conscious uncoupling' from wife, Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Coldplay star sat down for a chat with Radio 1's Zane Lowe ahead of the release his band's new album Ghost Stories on May 19, where he addressed his private life and love of One Direction.

He also heaps praise on Harry Styles and Co, proving that he is an unlikely Directioner.

The 37-year old frontman says of 1D: "I'm saying One Direction are brilliant and I'm not kidding."

Chris is the latest A-List name who Zane has bagged for an interview, following the likes of Kanye West and Eminem, who both recently joined the DJ in his studio.

In other related news, Coldplay were announced as the first headliner at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Glasgow, and will take to the stage at the event on May 24.
