YOUR FAVOURITE MTV SHOWS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON PARAMOUNT+

WCW: Olivia Rose

Meet our Woman Crush Wednesday winner this week! (We fancy her. A lot.)

HEY THERE and welcome to Woman Crush Wednesday, a weekly feature from MTV Breaks where we raise our glasses to all the fabulous females who are out there conquering life’s taboos and stereotypes, and who are just generally making the world a better place to live day by day.

Because regardless of looks, a woman that’s smart, motivated and ambitious is super-sexy and (let’s face it) we would.

So which sensational señorita are we celebrating (and crushing on majorly) today? Drumroll… it’s OLIVIA ROSE! For those who aren’t familiar with her work, Olivia is a photographer who likes to capture men of different races in order to unravel racial stereotypes.

How did she build her career? Well Olivia paved her own way to success, deciding that fashion photography school was a bad fit for her as she was bigger than what they wanted her to be – she felt boxed in. So, having photographed some of her gay friends for a while on the side, she decided she wanted to branch out and launch her own mission to photograph different demographics all around the world.

SO SHE DID! In an interview for ‘Dazed’ about her recent photo series (and vid) entitled ‘[Absence] Unity’, which is all about tackling fetishisms surrounding black masculinity, she called her work a process of “soul searching and a long process of ‘unlearning’”. More than anything, her work is about representing the unrepresented.

Butshe also wants to be invited home for tea! Yep, Olivia gets close to the people she captures on purpose because she genuinely wants to get to know them for who they truly are, not just to capture them accurately in her pictures, but to build her personal relationships with them. Um, where’s our invite…?!

So you can see why we think Olivia’s a pretty big deal, but HANDS OFF, cos she’s our Woman Crush Wednesday winner this week, and we saw her first.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE!
