Priya Ragu Tells Us About Her Unique Style Of Music: "Ragu Wavy"
“I feel really honoured to be nominated for MTV PUSH 2022 'cause I grew up with MTV... [I]discovered all my favourite artists. So the thought of me being in it is really surreal.”
Priya Raguis known for her unique sound; in our exclusive interview, she said: “If I could describe my music in two words it would be 'Ragu Wavy'... it's a mix of R&B, soul, hip hop, Tamil folk music and even a little bit jazz.”

When asked about her earliest music memory, Priya told usit “was jam sessions with my parents, every weekend we hadall the uncles and aunties come to our house and singing Tamil songs together. My brother used to play the keys, my father used to play the table and we all were just singing and having a good time.
“My brother Japhna Gold, he's my producer, also a songwriter. And working with him is like, it's very easy, like I can be myself, we both come from the same source so we don’t have to communicate a lot, we just create music andyeah it's just... it flows easily and it's a dream come true.”
We asked Priya what she was doing before music, and she surprised us revealing:“I was working for an airline as an accountant and technical purchaser. And it took me years to realisethat I had this gift and that I should use it, and in 2017 I was like, 'all right I want to go all in, I want to see what I can create,' and I went to New York for half a year with one goal to write 10 songs and come back. And during that time, I was on Skype with my brother creating this music, sending ideas back and forth.”
We cannot wait to see Priya continue to grow in 2022!
