Here's Why Celebs Are Holding Four Fingers Up In Their Selfies

What's that all about?

DID YOU KNOW that 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health condition during a typicalyear?

Well, news is spreading fast. And that’s because BBC 3’s new mental health campaign (#1in4) is using celeb selfies to get people talking about mental health conditions and how ridiculously common it is to have one.

The likes of Tom Hardy, Ella Henderson, Russell Brand, Louisa Johnson and Kristen Bell are among the celebs who’ve been posting Insta selfies holding up four fingers to raise awareness that it really is as many as a quarter of us who experience mental health problems, and spread the message that if you belong to the one in four you are NOT alone.

Louisa Omielan, who covers mental health issues in her stand-up comedy, featuredin a short Twitter video posted yesterday explaining why it’s so vital for anyone struggling with their mental health not to feel they are struggling alone.

As well as sharing her #1in4 selfie, obvs.

Nick Grimshaw also did a brilliant vid as part of the campaign, referencing his history with panic attacks and anxiety.

We love the #1in4 campaign – it serves as a reminder that although we may feel isolated and alone while dealing with our mental health problems, there are so many people who are or have been feeling the same way, though it may not seem like it.

So whether you’re sharing a #1in4 selfie to show support for the cause and raise awareness, or finally sharing how you’re feeling with friends, family or a counsellor, sharing is caring and it encourages caring back! No-one deserves to feel alone in the world and there are always people that can understand how you’re feeling and will want to support you.
