The Most Extravagant Celebrity Birthday Parties Ever
As we wake up to news of Kylie Jenner's 18th birthday weekend, with the teen star being paid to celebrate her birthday again with fans on 16th August at the “high-end” Beachclub in Montreal, we thought we'd look back at some of the most extravagant celeb birthday parties of all time.
Note: three of them come from other members of the Kardashian Jenner clan. One is another of Kylie's birthdays. That family know how to party!
North West’s 1st birthday aka Kidchella
Too young for Coachella? That was the frustrating predicament North West found herself in when asked how she’d like to celebrate her first birthday, for a second time, having already celebrated the huge milestone with her parents at the NYC Kids Museum one week earlier.
And so Kidchella was born. Housed on the grounds of Aunt Kourtney and Uncle Scott’s Calabasas home, Kidchella – a boutique festival aimed at affluent tiny tots and their social media shy family members – boasted a ferris wheel, face painting, one seriously fun looking karaoke slash dance stage, some ill-advised headdresses and snow cones! Kids wandering around the festival grounds wearing custom Yeezus tees was also very much a ‘thing’ on the day, because why not?
Paris Hilton's 21st Birthday
Paris Hilton celebrated her 21st birthday exactly how you’d expect any super rich socialite to throw down in 2003 – think lavish amounts of Swarovski, fake tan and VPLs – with five parties spread over multiple time zones in London, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Spending an estimated $75,000 on each guest that attended her massive five-night bender, the highlight of Paris’ birthday extravaganza was meant to be her 21-tier birthday cake but it was rudely upstaged by this amazing early sighting of Kris Jenner trying desperately to be noticed at Paris’ NYC bash.
Lindsay Lohan’s 20th Birthday
For her 20th birthday, Lindsay Lohan treated guests to a $100,000 dinner party prepared by a celebrity chef in a private Malibu beach house. Friends who attended the soiree included Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth, Courtney Love and Owen Wilson, which doesn’t half sound like the oddest group of people assembled, right?
Sir Philip Green’s 60th Birthday
Topshop's billionaire head honcho spared no expense for his 60th birthday party, which lasted four days at the Rosewood Mayakoba resort in Cancun, and is rumoured to have cost a whopping £10 Million! But when you’ve booked Robbie Williams, Michael Buble, Enrique Iglesias and Stevie Wonder to perform nightly, built a nightclub on the side of a cliff for your daughter Chloe (who celebrated her birthday later in the month) and invited an A-list crowd to dine out on “caviar surprises” and $80 Kobe burgers for four days, it’s not hard to see why one might run up such a disgustingly huge bill.
Not sure how we feel about the guests being forced to wear clothes branded ‘PG60’ (Philip’s initials and age) tbh, but then it’s kind of a small price to pay for all you can eat $80 burgers.
Kim Kardashian’s 30th Birthday
An extravagant moment that just wasn’t to be, Kim Kardashian blew out the candles on New York nightclub Glo’s plans to present her with a $1 million birthday cake made from diamonds on her 30th birthday, as she thought a cake worth that much was crass. Oh the irony.
Simon Cowell’s 50th Birthday
For his 50th birthday, Simon Cowell spared no expense when he invited 400 of his closest celeb pals (400?!) to party it up at his 2,500-acre mansion in Hertfordshire. Guests enjoyed a boozy cocktail reception with prawn and lobster martinis served at the bar, before sitting down to some traditional grub, consisting of chicken soup, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips and bread and butter pudding.
Rihanna’s 27th Birthday
Hosted by rumoured boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, Rihanna’s 27th birthday party earlier this year was a star-studded affair attended by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Naomi Campbell, Mick Jagger, Paris Hilton, Jim Carrey and Bill Murray. While not many details have been leaked about the party, which raged on until the early hours, one thing is for sure: the collective net worth in that room was all kinds of extravagant.
Kanye West’s 38th Birthday
Not only did our generation's Marilyn Monroe (Kanye’s bold statement, not ours) rent out the frickin Staples Center for a cool $110,000, so that her hubby and his famous friends could play a little birthday B-ball, but Kim also surprised Yeezy with his very own basketball court that she’d had built in their back garden. Talk about a “swish” set-up for shooting topless three pointers.
Kylie Jenner’s 16th Birthday
Kylie Jenner well and truly fell down the rabbit hole for her Alice In Wonderland-themed Sweet Sixteen party, which saw partygoers walk away with $1,000 swag bags, and the birthday girl herself serenaded by Drake and Big Sean.
Hugh Hefner’s 86th Birthday
Playboy made sure Hef’s 86th birthday party was a night to remember by inviting every living Playboy centrefold model to the mansion for a piece of birthday cake. We can’t imagine all those ex-girlfriends in the same room together would have been awkward…
Blue Ivy Carter’s 1st Birthday
Another baby who doesn’t know how lucky she is is, Blue Ivy, the proud owner of an $80,000 custom-made Barbie doll and former host of a first birthday party so extravagant it cost Bey and Jay a cool $200,000. $100,000 of that was spent on pink and white roses, though, which is totally ridiculous and no doubt the reason why Blue had to settle for a probably awful tasting $2,000 cake.
