Having seen It become a box office mega-hit last month, Warner Bros recently confirmed that the second half of the horror saga will officially arrive in 2019. And according to star Bill Skarsgård, we could be getting some backstory on Pennywise the dancing clown…

“I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different,” says Skarsgård of the sequel. “I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he, and where does he come from?”

“If you've read the novel, you know that they do actually go into his mind. Or they go into this transdimensional place, and they sort of beat him in this place. Which might be interesting, what that place would be, and what would it look like.”

The book does indeed delve into some very cosmic, intergalactic stuff that was totally bypassed in the recent movie, although whether it turns up in the sequel remains to be seen. We’ll find out for sure, when part two drops in cinemas on 6 September 2019.
