Drake Presented Rihanna With Her Video Vanguard Award After She Killed It Four Times At The 2016 MTV VMA
Yes, you read that right, the recipient of this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Rihanna, performed not once, not twice, but FOUR TIMES at the 2016 MTV VMA. Oh and Drake came along to present her with the award, no biggy.
With each segment having a theme we can see why she is so deserving of this prestigious award. She’s been part of our lives and part of the wider music world for 11 years now, and we have a feeling that this is really just the beginning. If she carries on the way she’s going there will be many more years of success to come.
Her first performance had a dance theme where she performed a medley of some of her biggest club bangers including ‘Don’t Stop The Music’, ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Where Have You Been’. Surrounded by a troop of dancers, she truly got the VMA
party started.
The next segment was the reggae one where she performed hits such as ’Rude Boy’, ‘What’s My Name?’ and ‘Work’ with a crew that could rival anyone’s. Rihanna took us back to her roots with one epic reggae dance party.
As if all of that wasn’t enough she came right back with a trap section, showcasing yet another genre that she absolutely smashes. She performed ‘Needed Me’, ‘Pour It Up’ and ‘BBHMM’ with a group of dancers that you may find familiar - the New Zealand dance troop featured in Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’ video. Yeah, them. Pretty cool huh?
And then came the final performance and ALL the tears. It was the turn of the ballads, she performed ‘Stay’, ‘Love On The Brain’ and ‘Diamonds’ before receiving her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award from her long time boo, Drake.
We’re not even kidding when we say that we had tears in our eyes. The stuff he said about Bad Gal RiRi would make anyone’s heart melt. For example, when he was gushing about Rihanna, he said: “most of all I love the woman who hasn't changed since day one." Yep, we're struggling to hold it together right now as well.
Oh, and that awkward side kiss that totally wasn’t even that awkward because it’s Drake and Rihanna. Yep, that got us right in the feels. Well done RiRi, you absolutely killed it.
