Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt has named Taylor Swift’s earlier country days as a “big inspiration” for her music.

Speaking to MTV News UK after being the first artist to perform a ‘Live From The Newsroom’ session for us, the Stay Out songstress told us:

“I think Taylor Swift, in the days when she was kind of doing more country style, definitely was a big inspiration for me.

“I love her stuff now but it’s really different to what I’m doing now so I think anyone that writes their own songs and plays an instrument is an inspiration to me definitely.”

“It ‘s quite a weird one actually. I think some of them might be Justin Bieber fans or something. They were like ‘oh we’re called the Beliebers, what can Nina’s fans be called, what can we call ourselves?’ and then one of them like said ‘Nesbians’ – I don’t know why…‘cos of Nesbitt and it kind of caught on and it’s a bit of a pun now.

“I mean it’s good that they have fun saying it and whenever they play my song on Radio 1 they always mention that word ‘cos they think it’s funny, so yeah I just think its quite fun really – seems to have caught on quite well!”

Nina played Camden’s Barfly last night (13th June) and told us some of her Nesbians come from far and wide to see her:

“Someone flew from Australia…to come see a gig and there’s someone from Texas tonight I’m sure as well, and Belgium. They come from all over the world which is amazing so yeah that’s pretty crazy, but amazing and they always bring me little tortoises as well which is quite cute ‘cos that’s my favourite animal except from cats [points to T-shirt!] so yeah I collect them…bit weird!”
