9 Reality TV Couples Who Got Engaged But Never Actually Tied The Knot
We watched them fall in love on reality TV, but there was no happy ending for these nine reality TV couples. Although in some (ok, most) cases we really weren't all that surprised.
From Geordie Shore'sVicky Pattison and Ricci Guarnaccio to Celebrity Big Brother'sStephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell we examine where it all went a bit wrong. Sad face.
Have you seen these celebs who kept life changing events from us...
1. Vicky Pattison and Ricci Guarnaccio
We were so happy when our Vicky and Ricci got engaged while filming Goerdie Shore out in Mexico.
Sure, they had they’re issues but we believed in them. But they couldn’t get past the arguments and eventually ended things in March 2013.
“I'd rather be living on a desert island alone with vultures pecking out my eyes than be anywhere near him,” Vicky told The Mirror of her ex. Which says it all really.
2. Megan McKenna and Jordan Davies
When Ex On The Beachers Megan and Jordan got engaged after less than a year of dating, we totally hoped they’d make it work.
Four months later and they were over, Megan admitted that she really wasn’t feeling the whole proposal on camera thing.
“I was angry [he proposed] on camera, I wished he didn't do it, I think it's embarrassing. He embarrassed me,” she said of the whole sorry incident.
3. Lucy Mecklenburgh and Mario Falcone
As far as proposals go, Mario’s was pretty epic. The TOWIE star rented a yacht while the couple were in - where else - Marbella and presented Lucy with a ring worth an eye-watering £25,000.
It didn’t take long before Lucy decided to end things, as Mario hadn’t quite mastered the whole monogamy aspect of a realtionship.
And even Mario seemed to think the engagement was a mistake, ‘“We were happy before we were engaged. That ring, to me, is a symbol of the bad memories and everything that's happened over the past few months,” he said in an episode of the reality show.
4. Amber Portwood and Matt Baier
Teen Mom’s Amber and her fiance Matt met over social media and lasted for nearly three years. But Amber eventually called off their wedding - which was set for October 2017 - back in June 2017.
And there was one major reason why Amber ended things;Matt - who like Amber has been through rehab - offered Teen Mom castmate Catelynn Lowell a Xanax when she was feeling anxious during a press event.
“It was pretty much the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Amber admitted.
5. Marnie Simpson and Ricky Rayment
It looked like a reality TV crossover match made in heaven. Marnie even quit Geordie Shore to focus on her relationship with TOWIE’s Ricky.
But she wasn’t gone for long - yay - and few months after leaving Marnie was back and Ricky was history.“He only [proposed] for one reason and that was to get me off of Geordie Shore,” our Marns has since insisted.
6. Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger
They were together for an incredible 11 years, but no one really ever thought that Lauren and Mark would actually make it up the aisle.
Despite all their ups and down, Mark decided to propose to his TOWIE gf when he found out she’dhad a tattoo of his name removed. So romantic.
Their engagement lasted less than a year, and Mark is now married to Michelle Keegan and is totally estranged from his ex.
7. Jon Clark and Hannah Elizabeth
So no surprises that this Love Island pair didn’t make it work. They gotengaged after just a few weeks, and they split up after just a few months together. Ever heard of taking things slowly, guys?
At the time Jon admitted to the Daily Star that he was genuinely saddened by the split, “I'm gutted that we broke up and I'm gutted about the whole situation but she seems to be moving on now, she's happy and I'm trying to make myself happy as well.”
8. Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell
Steph and Jez’s relationship basically reached soap opera levels of drama, and while they never actually ever confirmed an engagement they certainly sparked more than their fair of speculation that they were planning to tie the knot.
So yeah, this is one is a bit of a cheat but Jeremy did give Stephanie a promise ring that she wore on her left ring finger. And those ever present mysterious sources also once told Closer magazine that Stephaniewanted a wedding.
“After everything they've been through, Steph is dreaming of a fairy-tale ending and that includes getting married. She believes a wedding would mark a fresh start and be the perfect chance to put the past behind them.”
Things didn’t quite work out that way.
9. Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards
While Zayn and Perrie didn’t actually appear on the same reality TV show at the same time, we’re still saying that this former X Factor couple totally count.
They met in December 2011 - when Perrie was a contest on The X Factor and Zayn performed with the rest of 1D - and were engaged by August 2013.
But by August 2015 - and after four years together - it wasall over. With Zayn telling an interviewer at Fader magazine that he didn’t dump the Little Mix singer by text, “I love her [Perrie] a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that.”
