Get To Know: Dylan
Let us introduce you to Dylan, the 22-year-old indie-pop musician from Suffolk has been working on staying true to herself in her music and is ready to reveal all in her new EP coming this April.
Recalling fond memories of singing along to classic rock songs from a young age, Dylan was always surrounded by music and saw no other choice but to follow her passion to create empowering pop music with an indie twist.
Dylan has an exciting year coming up supporting Bastille andTate McRae on tour and has her own headline shows lined up across the US and UK so be sure to catch her live when you can!
1. For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…
I am Dylan, I’m 22, and I am asinger songwriterfrom Suffolk. The majority of my music (especially the stuff coming) is all about empowering through heartbreak and equally trying to give myself some more confidence lol.
2. Who/what inspired you to start a career in music?
My dad unintentionally raised me to be exactly how I am. I spent most of my childhoodstoodon the kitchen table screaming to classic rock. There was never really any other option for a career. I wanted to be a helicopter pilot for a hot second, but my eyesight isn’t good enough.
3. Who are your biggest musical influences?
At the moment, Taylor Swift andCatfish and the Bottlemen. Taylor to remind me to tell my story and Catfish because I love guitars.
4.Tell us about the writing and recording process of your new release…
This EP actually took quite a long time to get right. We had a completely different track list originally, but then felt it wasn’t my real self, so I rewrote most of it. I wrote a hell of a lot of songs for it because I had been trying to figure out my voice and what I wanted to say, luckily the songs became much better once I settled into just being myself.
5. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
My Headline show in February at The Garage, London. Hundreds of people screaming every word. That was the moment I felt like this was going to work, it was the reassurance I had needed for years that actually I really was doing something good with my life.
6. Who would you be your dream collaboration and why?
I really want to work with Chris Martin, I used to be completely and utterly obsessed with Coldplay. In fact it was so bad that at around 14 I sent him a CD with one of my songs on it (which was the most awful thing you’ve ever heard) along with a letter expressing my love and that if they wanted to use the song they were totally welcome. Who the hell did I think I was?!
7. Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?
Not yet, I nearly had a moment with Ed Sheeran but managed to pull myself together and found some words to say.
8. If you could only listen to one song on repeat for the rest of time what would it be and why?
Easy. Hourglass by Catfish andthe Bottlemen. I mean WHYWOULDNTYOU CHOSE THAT SONG?It is literally the most perfect piece of music and lyric out there.
9. What’s on your playlists that people wouldn’t expect?
There’s a lot of Aerosmith and AC/DC, but I would say that is expected. Otherwise, I actually listen to a lot of soundtracks which is embarrassing if I’m in charge of the aux. One minute it’s Doja Cat, the next you’re listening to the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack in full.
10. What can we expect from your live shows?
Slightly questionable vocals (I get carried away with excitement), totally epic lanky dance moves and complete guitar heaven.
11. When can we see you live this year?
I’m about to go on tour with Bastille, then Tate McRae, then summer festivals, then my own AMERICAN SHOWS (who allowed that) finishing with my headline UK tour in November, which is a MUST because there will be a load of new songs.
