We're Totally Over Winter So We've Chosen Our Top 5 Croatian Music Festivals
Right that’s it, we’re sick of the winter now. The gloomy days and freezing weather has got us day-dreaming about the summer and more importantly, festival season.
We want sunny beaches, poolparties and great music already and where better to get all these things than Croatia? With its hostof idyllic islands, golden beaches and massive outdoor clubs, Croatia is top of our list for summer blowouts.
For this very reason it has tonnes of festivals to choose from. Thankfully, Croatia Wave is here to help. They organise trips to Croatia, sorting everything from accommodation and flights to the festivals themselves. Plus, for every person whobooks a tripthrough Croatia Wave, €1goes to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, so you don't even have to feel bad about lying around on the beach and partying untilthe early hours because it's for a good cause, win-win!
For a little summer inspo, here are our top 5 Croatianfestivals:
Fresh Island is Europe’s biggest hip-hop and urban music festival with over 7,000 people piling into the stunning island of Pag’s three massive, beach-adjacent super clubs. The line-up has boasted huge names such as Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and A$AP Rocky in the past and they’ve got Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign and DJ Premier headlining this year. With pool parties, water sports and secret beach hideouts to find, Fresh Island has plenty of options away from the music too.
Starting in 2013, Ultra Europe is still just a baby but it already drawscrowds of over 80,000, and for good reason. It’s pretty unique in its set-up as a festival that changes locations halfway through. Days one and two take place in the massive Poljud Stadium and then for the final day you hop over tothe more intimate setting of the island of Hvar. In terms of music it’s pretty much the biggest names in dance you can find with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, David Guetta and Afrojack appearing last year with 2016’s line-up still to come.
Sonus is all about the underground and the undiscovered. In its idyllic setting of Zrce Beach, Sonus brings to attention the most exciting names lurking under the surface of contemporary dance. With decadent boat parties, crystal clear waters and massive sound-systems everything about Sonus feels glamorous and cool, it’s like being a celeb for a few days…which we obviously want to do.
With pool and beach parties in the day and massive outdoor stages as well as nightclubs for later, Hideout doesn’t let up for one second of its fiveday duration. With big names in house, techno and drum & bass like Maceo Plex, Gorgon City, Jamie Jones, Locodice and Skream playing in 30 degree heat, Hideout is intense but brilliant! You can always go for a nice swim in the sea if it all gets a bit much anyway…
Soundwave was voted by The Independent as one of Europe’s top 10 festivals, and rightly so. With a satisfying mix of funk, soul, reggae, hip-hop, electronic and just about everything else Soundwave has a bit of something for everyone. With Madlib and Mr Scruff taking control of the early hours and boat parties with the likes of Jay Electronica last year we can’t wait to see what this year brings!
