Disclosure: 'We Understand Why Some DJs Mime Now'
EXCLUSIVE! Howard & Guy talk Summertime Ball, touring & the future...
Disclosure have revealed they now ‘understand’ why some DJ acts mime from time to time after purposefully [uuid=3c0d180e-d801-4150-b489-9576f5d91218]making it obvious they were themselves at this year’s Summertime Ball[/uuid].
Speaking exclusively to MTV News UK we talk to the pair about chart success, doing three festivals in three countries in 24 hours and why they chose to make it clear they were ‘unplugged’ at this year’s gig at Wembley Stadium.
“It was really important,” Guy began, “I mean that’s why I did it. I thought because we’re a live act and you do get asked to do things like that a lot and we just say no to all of them, but with that show there was just no way around it, we had to play.
“It was really horrible you know to be at such an amazing venue, hearing your own music and not being able to play any of it, ‘cause you know we’re musicians, we like playing music, we can, it’s just we weren’t allowed, which kinda sucked.
“But… I can understand now why DJs have to do that, because for that show for instance, the reason we had to do was ‘cause the change over was like thirty seconds and … I know that everyone will say it, it’s like ‘if you’re really incredible you should’ve said no to the show’, but its like, understand, we just had to do it.”
He added: “I think the thing we don’t like is when you get a DJ who’s got a pre-recorded set, or whatever and they do just stand there miming and get paid a lot of money to do that, and I think … what are people paying to see, you know? With our shows we put on so much effort into production and all the instruments and everything and I think it’s just a bit sad especially because I think that a lot of those Djs who do it actually can DJ and they just choose not to, which is a bit sad, but you know each to their own.”
