We're SO close to Christmas now we can almost taste the candy cane, but if you're still feeling a little more humbug than Christmas right now, don't panic - your Ghost of Christmas Cheer is here! Here are our top picks of the best video games to get you in the Christmassy mood...

1. Animal Crossing

To be fair, Animal Crossing is great at bringing all special occasions to life, not just Christmas, but nothing makes us happier than Toy Day. No matter what Animal Crossing game you have, you can partake in the Christmas festivities with Isabelle, Tom Nook and pals, from decorating your cute little home with the very latest festive furniture, to dressing up in Christmassy outfits. Not even Scrooge himself can spend him with Animal Crossing and not feel Christmassy afterwards!

2. Batman: Arkham Origins

This isn't like the whole Die-Hard-Isn't-A-Christmas-Movie argument, trust us - Batman Arkham Origins really IS a Christmas game. And while it isn't one of the strongest game in the Arkham series, it is set on Christmas Eve, and it shows us what happens in Gotham City the night before Christmas. What else do you need?

3. Until Dawn

Yes, this is a pretty graphic slasher horror game and yes, there's an age-rating for a reason, but if you like the sound of snow cracking under your feet and the roar of an open fire, few games nail this as much as Until Dawn. It's probably not the game to play with your nanna or your younger cousins in the room though… or after a big Christmas dinner. Ew.

4. Minecraft

The best thing about Minecraft is that whatever you need to get you feeling Christmassy, you can build it yourself! Thanks to a host of free and purchasable items such as gingerbread men, christmas decorations, stockings, and snow-topped buildings - not to mention a huge empty world all of your own, just waiting for you to build in - there's plenty of festive fun to be had with your pickaxe. It's also loads of fun to play with family and friends who might not have a lot of experience playing games before!

5. Fortnite

Right now there's a whole selection of Fortnite Christmas goodies to get us in the holiday mood. Season 7 is now live, completely with festive avatars, skins, and weapons, so if you're fed up of your buddies ghosting you for Fortnite frolics, now's the perfect time to jump in and beat 'em at their own game - literally! And with so many cute Christmas items and snowy scenes, it'll definitely get you in the mood.

6. Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Okay, so there's nothing remotely Christmassy about Assassin's Creed Odyssey, we know, but if you've already had your fill of snow and ice and all that forced holiday cheer, Assassin's Creed Odyssey's azure skies and sun-scorched landscapes are the perfect antidote to too much festive cheer!
