MTV: Tell us your life story in one sentence.

Chiara: "Incessant dreamer born to travel the world and write, sing, make music til I die!"

If you could describe your sound in three words what would they be?

"Future funk pop."

What's the story behind 'Hammer', which we're premiering today?

"Hammer was such a fun one to write. I kind of wanted to write a song that could have been like a forgotten album track from Christina Aguilera’s first record, haha. Me and my friend The Dealer wrote it together in a day, and it became this really joyous anthem about being totally knocked out by someone awesome and wanting to do crazy sh*t with them."

Which artist do you find people say you most sound like?

"A lot of people have said the music has some Prince vibes, which is ridiculous and very flattering. Some people said Nikka Costa, which is pretty cool 'cos I lived for 'Like A Feather'."

You've been announced to support Jess Glynne on tour – dream come true? How are you feeling about playing venues like Brixton Academy?

"Absolutely a dream. I was so excited when I find out. Supporting an artist like Jess is pretty thrilling but the idea of playing Brixton Academy. I didn’t think it would happen so soon, it’s my favourite venue in London… I am just so excited to get on that stage!"

Have you met Jess yet?

"I haven’t met Jess yet no, but I can’t wait to see her at the shows."

What's the first thing do you think you'll say to her?

"I’m just gonna say well f*cking done, you are smashing it and paving a whole new way for UK acts to break worldwide, especially females. I know she’s worked really hard to get where she is, and I admire that. She deserves every bit of the crazy success she has right now."

You're an Aussie in London, what English trait can you just not get your head around?

"Haha - funnily enough us Aussies and Brits are pretty similar. We share a very similar sense of humour which is my favourite thing about us. One thing I will say is - and I’ll probably get so much sh*t for this 'cos I know you guys pride yourself on your tea making skills - all the Brits I know drink their tea SO weak. Like, they’ll bob the tea bag in and out maybe three times and that’s it. So you got like tea flavoured water basically. I tell everyone - please leave my tea bag in. People think I’m so strange, I leave my tea bag in right to the end. 'Til it gets all dark and strong and changes colour. I like go on a journey with my tea. I digress…"

Who are your musical obsessions?

"Depends on which day you get me on. Erykah Badu - always and forever. Joni. Stevie. Prince. They taught me how to feel. But in terms of people coming up now…. Anderson Paak’s new record is unbelievable. Hiatus Kaiyote. I just discovered GoldLink’s record and it's f*cking amazing. Jungle - they were the best live show I saw last year - so funky! They’re all in very high rotation right now. And Justin Bieber. Is there a better song out there than ‘Sorry’? I don't think so."

Who are your social media obsessions?

"Oh god, any meme Instagram. They give me so much joy. Fat Jewish is amazing. Beige Cardigan. F*ck Jerry. I live for people who make memes. Like I don’t know who these people are or how they do it but I thank god everyday they exist!!! I have a folder of saved memes on my phone for when I’m having a bad day."

Who are you working with at present? We've seen you in the studio with Karen Harding…

"Karen’s amazing I love her. I’ve been writing a lot with some badass females that are just kicking ass right now - KStewart, Dua Lipa, Imani - lots of amazing chicks with huge voices doing their thing. On my own stuff - I work a lot with The Dealer & Bearcubs, they produced my upcoming EP. I also love working with Utters, he’s been a collaborator on my stuff since day one. Recently I had a session back home in Melbourne with M-Phazes which was amazing cos he’s such a legend in Australia and he’s just won a Grammy so the world awaits. I want to get some Aussie love on some future records!"

What tattoo are you most proud of?

"Ahh I love all of them! I’ve got a mini collection going on now. Most recently I got two little stick n pokes, a Basquiat crown on my left arm, and a little sleeping Ziggy Stardust on my right arm, a little tribute to my two favourite artists. My friend Lily Gloria does them for me - she’s an amazing tattoo artist here in London."

Which song can you not get out of your head at the moment?

"My friend just showed me this amazing tune called 'Weight in Gold' by Gallant and the chorus has been stuck in my head for days, it’s so beautiful."

And finally…Rihanna or Beyoncé?

"Beyoncé. Next."
