The Real Meaning Behind 12 Of The Most Mysterious Celeb Tattoos

Because we're nosey af...

It’s no secret that the majority of celebs on the planet have at least one tattoo because they looooove showing off their new ink to their fans. (Obviously we’re not talking about Kimmy K here because ‘honey, would you put a bumper sticker on a Bentley?’).

Point made.ANYWAY, we can’t be alone in wondering what the hell was going through their brains when they decided to get inked with a tub of Vegemite on their arm (yep, we’re looking at you Miley). Here’s what all these mysterious celeb tattoos actually mean…

'Watch! All of the latest celeb news you need to catch up on right now >>>'

1. JUSTIN BIEBER’S MEANINGFUL PHRASE

Better at 70? Wtf is he on about?! The Biebs got all deep and meaningful about his past and assured his fans that his best years are still ahead of him.

He posted on Instagram: “I look back at a lot of things in my life, mistakes, insecurities, and although I have felt I've wasted a lot of time it also makes me want to be better faster! For me personally I want to work everyday to be BETTER AT 70.” Ah, makes sense now.

2. MILEY CYRUS’ TUB OF VEGEMITE

Liam Hemsworth once said in an interview that Vegemite was something he "lived on" during his childhood so apparently Miley's 1000th tattoo is an ode to her boyf’s fave food. That is some serious commitment and we’re here for it.

3. SELENA GOMEZ’S ‘SUNSHINE’

Why does Selena have the word ‘Sunshine’ tattooed on her right foot? It’s actually to honour a childhood tradition when SelGo's grandma would tuck her in and sing "You Are My Sunshine." Heart is melting RN.

4. HALSEY’S UNLUCKY HORSESHOE

Halsey showed her rebellious side when she revealed her upside down horseshoe. She said: “In tattoo culture, you're not supposed to tattoo a horseshoe upside down because it means all the luck is spilling out, so it's actually bad luck. I got it to signify that I don't need luck.

I work really, really hard, and I believe in the stars aligning, but I don't believe that anything happens to anyone based out of sheer luck.” FOUR FOR YOU HALSEY, YOU GO HALSEY.

5. RIHANNA’S UNDERBOOB GODDESS

In memory of her late grandma, RiRi posted some sweet words about her sentimental tattoo on Instagram: “Goddess Isis – Complete Woman – Model for future generations #GRANGRANDOLLY – always in and on my heart.”

6. KANYE’S ROMAN NUMERALS

Kim revealed on Twitter that she managed to talk Kanye out of getting a face tattoo (thank the Lord) so instead he got some roman numerals on his wrists. They’re actually in honour of his daughter North and his late mother’s birthdays which is super sweet.

7. DEMI LOVATO’S LION

Although Demi has never publicly decoded her lion tatt, they seem to go hand in hand as Demi’s Zodiac Sign is Leo. She even has a song called ‘Lionheart’, so we're thinking a lion is a special symbol in her life. In fact, Demi has more than 15 tattoos, and they all have a special meaning. For example, the words "Stay strong" on her wrists symbolise her coming out of rehab in 2011.

8. KYLIE JENNER’S ‘MARY JO’

Kylie - the youngest Karjenner but with the highest tattoo count - revealed she had her grandmother’s name ‘Mary Jo’ (also one of her lip kit shades FYI) inked in her grandfather’s handwriting back in February 2016. We’re not crying, you are.

9. LEA MICHELE’S NUMBER 5

Lea’s touching tattoo was a tribute to her former boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith. Lea posted the picture of a number 5, Cory's character Finn Hudson's football number in the show, with the caption: "And one more... for my Quarterback.. #5".

10. CHERYL’S CLEAVAGE INK

We were so busy shipping Chezza and Liam we didn’t even notice her mysterious cleavage tatt in *that* plunging jumpsuit at the Cannes Film Festival. It’s not 100% confirmed but fans seem to think that it’s of the Buddhist symbol Unalome, representing the path to enlightenment. Sounds good to us.

11. ED SHEERAN’S PUSS IN BOOTS

MTV

Ed actually inked up his forearm with the oh-so-adorable cat to honour one of his album's songs: "Puss in Boots relates to a song called 'Wake Me Up' where I talk about 'Shrek’. Plus, I like cats."

If you’re slightly confused, here are the lyrics: “And I know you love 'Shrek,' 'cause we've watched it 12 times / But maybe you're hoping for a fairytale too." Much cuter than we originally thought.

12. LOUIS TOMLINSON’S CUPPA

Louis debuted this little cuppa tea design on his Instagram, which is apparently in homage to their hitLittle Things. The post was accompanied by the lyric, “You can’t go to bed...” which is a reference to the 1D track: “You can’t go to bed without a cup of tea / Maybe that’s the reason that you talk in your sleep.” Nice.
