Lotto Boyzz Chat Championing A New Genre and Touring with J Hus
As the day that we announce our MTV Brand New for 2018 artist draws nearer, we're putting the spotlight on one of our last nominees: Lotto Boyzz. The Birmingham born duo have been making a name for themselves with their unique sound ever since 2016.
In an exclusive interview, the guys (Ash and Lucas) discuss championinga new genre and what's to come in 2018.
Opening up about their beginnings and how they first crossed paths, Ash takes us back to their adolescence: "We met at a youth club like seven years ago now and we made our first song together". He then adds: "from there we've been stuck together".
Speaking about their lane musically and finding their sound Lucas says: "We was just looking at the game like 'okay we want our own style but we're taking influences from so many other places and then bringing it back to you with Afrobbeanbasically".
Ash then gives us the lowdown on Afrobbean: "Afrobbean is basically a mix between African music and Carribean music [...] We merge them together to create this. It's just basically based off vibe, the instruments used and [...]yeah it's just different."
If you listen to any Lotto Boyzz song you'll know exactly what they mean. No one makes music like them.
When chat moves to their success,Lucas mentions that releasing their first EP in 2017 was huge for them: "Dropping the EP definitely was a big game-changer for us. It was our first project as Lotto Boyzz so it was something that we worked hard towards."
As for their milestones, Ash is keen to mention that being able to support J Hus on tour was a massive opportunity for them that they will always appreciate: "Going on tour with J Hus as well that was sick. The vibe, the people, everyone was just gassed."
As for what's still to come in the year ahead, Ash is pretty tight-lipped. "For 2018 you can expect singles. We're just trying to be in your face so you'll just see a lot Lotto Boyzz." And Lucas teases:"A few more secret features as well that are dropping"
He then describes them as "bangers", so it's safe to say that we're super excited to hearthem.
We cannot wait to find out more and see their careers develop and grow as the year unfolds.
