Billie Eilish Drops New Song About Unrequited Love ‘wish you were gay’

And she performed it last night for fans in London.

Halfway through her UK and Europe ‘1 By 1’ tour, Billie Eilish has just dropped her second single from her debut album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?”.

The single entitled ‘wish you were gay’, is about Eilish wishing her crush wasn’t attracted to her solely because she’s not his preferred sexual orientation, and therefore it’s no fault of her own that he can’t reciprocate her feelings. It’s selfish, honest, and a little bit narcissistic - but we’d be lying if we said we’ve never wanted the reason for someone to not like us to be anything BUT our own fault.

The song comes after Eilish dropped a teaser for the track on Instagram a few days ago, which is now available on all streaming platforms.

Singing lyrics like: “I'm so selfish / But you make me feel helpless”, and “I can't tell you how much I wish I didn't wanna stay / I just kinda wish you were gay”, Eilish captures those feelings of falling hard for someone who just doesn’t feel the same. Unrequited love might just be the most painful feeling, and Eilish wishes the forces making it happen to her came from any direction but her own.

The track, which has been around for a while (just unreleased), is in Eilish’s words: “about a guy that really was not interested in me and it made me feel horrible.” Eilish also revealed to fans on a live stream that said guy in fact came out to her a little later: “guess what? he just came out to me like a couple weeks ago.”

Breaking down the track further, Eilish released a snippet into her mind and creative process whilst writing the track:

Billie also performed it live for the first time since its official release during her show at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire last night:

The song comes after the release of ‘bury a friend’ which references the album title “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?”, releasing this March the 29th.
