F**k It Friday: Anthony Mackie
Another week smashed out the park, well done you! Hello and welcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about believing in yourself, and making them happen. AMIRIGHT?
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour, drumroll… its winged Avenger, Anthony Mackie!
Anthony Mackie has attributed his entire career success (of which there has been plenty!) to his youth teachers at the New Orleans Centre for Creative Arts (NOCCA). A pretty normal story for an actor then. How he came to be there though, is a little less orthodox.
Since he was 14, Anthony had idolised fellow New Orleans actor Wendell Pierce. So much so in fact that since he wasn’t sure how to go about making it as an actor her just said “f**k it” (probably), did some research and just did exactly what Wendell Pierce had done, which turned out to be attending NOCCA.
While at NOCCA Wendell Pierce came in to give a talk, which Anthony obviously attended. Anthony was blown away by him so said “f**k it” (probably) again and approached him after saying, as reported by Nola, “'I want to be just like you.' He was like, 'All right, young dude,' and I was like, 'No. Whatever you did, I want to do that!’”.
Wendell told Anthony that after NOCCA he went to The Juilliard School so, that’s right, off went Anthony! This is obviously easier said than done and Anthony had to work damn hard to get in. This slightly odd but entirely “f**k it” attitude of just following directly in the footsteps of his idol paid off for Anthony who not only went on to co-star in ‘Night Catches Us’ with Wendell but also on to The Hurt Locker, Avengers and so many other awesome roles! F**K YEAH.
Check out last week’s “f**k it"herohere.
